M.A.C and ESA together for the MALIBU project
ESA & M.A.C

Maintaining roads in good condition is essential to ensure the safety and comfort of road users. Many cities are facing problems related to road deterioration, such as cracks, potholes and deformations, caused by a variety of factors such as water infiltration, the weight of vehicles and adverse weather conditions.

To address these road deterioration issues, NAIS has actively collaborated with M.A.C , Yetitmoves , UrbyetOrbit , Eurelettronica Icas and Wind to develop MALIBU , an innovative system that provides a full range of services dedicated to monitoring and predicting the evolution of defects roads , as well as the mapping of air quality along roads.

The main objectives of the Malibu Project are:

  • Awareness of the state of degradation of the roads.
  • Timely detection of defects, especially potholes and cracks.
  • Evaluation of the severity of defects and timely warnings.
  • Forecasting the evolution of defects for preventive interventions.

M.A.C has played a fundamental role in the design of the systems, the installation of devices on board the vehicles and the archiving and analysis of data in its Data Centers .

The sensors installed on ATAC buses , which travel daily on urban roads, not only satisfy the primary needs of the MALIBU project , but also allow analyzing the stress of vehicles caused by road vibrations , studying the flow of passengers at bus stops and map the distribution of air pollutants along bus routes.

The MALIBU project represents an important technological innovation for road monitoring and maintenance . The use of cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the 5G network and spatial data, allows this system to offer a complete service aimed at guaranteeing safer roads and improving the quality of life of users . The collaboration between the companies involved has played a fundamental role in the success of this project, demonstrating how the union of different skills can lead to significant results in the field of technological innovation and road safety.
